“Living the Kingdom of God into a Hurting World”

That’s the one sentence core of how we see our mission. “Living the Kingdom of God” — Doing our best to live out our faith 24/7 everywhere we go, trusting in God’s love and following God’s direction for our lives. “Into a hurting world” — we’re not about staying in our own little group, but caring for the people all around us whether or not they’re in a church.

Transformation and growth are two words that describe what happens in our lives as we get serious about following Jesus in how we act and relate to one another and to God. It also describes who we are as a group of people who together are seeking to follow Jesus. Memorial Baptist Church has been around for just over 50 years; and in that space of time, God’s character hasn’t changed. God’s promises and offer of new life through Jesus haven’t changed. But oh, how our world has changed! And we want to be found faithful to God’s mission in our time and place.

Our Mission

We, Memorial Baptist Church, a group of people united by our faith in Jesus Christ as our Savior, are an open and accepting people. We welcome all persons in our search for truth as we look to the Holy Scriptures and the Holy Spirit for guidance. We challenge each other to grow spiritually through Bible study, public worship, and prayer.

We value our relationships and actively seek ways to deepen our friendship and love for one another. We support each other in good times and hard times, forgiving others as we have been forgiven by God. We share the good news of Christ’s love to our church family and with others. We also believe our church has a responsibility in our world to help those who are burdened with needs.

We seek to offer Christ in creative ways to new generations of people. We toil together in God’s Kingdom with many other churches and denominations. We welcome cooperation at all times, and trust that our efforts will serve and please our Lord Jesus Christ.

Our Core Beliefs

“In essential things, let there be unity, in that which is non-essential, liberty, and in all things, love.”

As a summary of biblical teaching we believe in:

• The living God as the creator and sustainer of all life; (Genesis 1:1-2:25, John 1:3, Hebrews 1:2)
• Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, born of the Virgin Mary, who through his life,
  death and resurrection invites us into God’s kingdom and eternal life; (John 3:16)
• The Holy Spirit, who lives within us, revealing God’s truth; (John 16: 12-16)
• The body of Christ, composed of his followers, who through baptism have professed their faith, and are commissioned to share (disciple & evangelize) the gospel to all; (1 Corinthians 12:13 and 1 Corinthians 12:21,  Matthew 28:18-20, Romans 10:9-13)
• The Holy Bible, God’s inspired word, that provides guidance and authority for our Christian journey; (2 Timothy 3:16)
• And the second coming of Jesus Christ, the resurrection of the body, the judgment of all, and everlasting life. (1 Timothy 4:1, John 5:25-29, Romans 8:11, Revelation 20:11-15)

What is it like at Memorial Baptist Church?

To really get a sense of who we are (and who God is shaping us into as a church), you kind of have to see and experience it — but we’d like you to know a few things ahead of time:

• Come as you are. You will be loved and accepted for who you are, wherever you are on your journey with God.
• We’re not perfect — but we are serious about seeking to grow into the people God created us to be.
• We believe that Jesus changes lives; and that the invitation to know God’s love and power and forgiveness is open to everyone.
• We’re not about trying to chase what’s ‘trendy’ – or holding on to tradition ‘just because’
• We’re a crazy mix of people from all kinds of backgrounds and ages, gifts and struggles, caring for one another, and encouraging each other on in faith and life.
